Eliminating Mould – the other ‘F-word’

Eliminating Mould - the other ‘F-word’ 1

You spot mould and the ‘F-word’ comes to mind. That’s right… ‘fungus’! It’s eliminating mould time Coasties.

After so much wet weather on the Central Coast lately, not too many homes and businesses are immune, so it becomes a case of “you get mould, and you get mould, everybody gets mould!!”

Eliminating Mould - the other ‘F-word’ 2

Mould develops super-duper fast like within 24hrs!

NSW Health in this article describes mould as an organism called Fungi which includes mushrooms and yeast.

It not only grows in plain sight but also where you can’t see it like within your carpet and fabric fibres in your furniture like bedheads, lounges and even in your curtains. The bugger can cling to anything and thrives in moist/damp and or humid areas.

Then there’s airborne mould spores. We can breathe in these mould spores causing all sorts of health problems from runny nose to asthma attack so it’s vital to get it treated as soon as you know it’s present.

The NSW Health department also recommends getting a professional carpet clean saying “Absorbent materials, such as carpet may need to be professionally cleaned or replaced if they are contaminated with mould.”

At Citrus Clean we would give you an honest assessment if the mould affected carpet can be cleaned, or if it should be replaced. We can remove mould from your flooring including tiles and grout, carpet, rugs and upholstery, curtains and even leather jackets!

Mould removal myths

Mould removing products from the shop and bleach only cover up the appearance of mould. It just turns it from green or black to white! I know right, a travesty! The spores are left behind after a bleach job so the mould will be back. Not Happy Jan! Don’t waste your time and energy with these useless smelly products.

NSW Health also recommends a variety of measures to remove the mould and always wear protective clothing when cleaning mould and have good ventilation. Full cleaning checklist can be found here but good old vinegar (4 parts) and 1 part water is the best for surfaces. But what about your lounges, bedheads, rugs and flooring? It’s recommended to get it professionally cleaned.

Our top tips to help control mould issues from developing:

 • Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter
 • Increase air circulation around furniture by moving the furniture away from the walls
 • Get your air conditioner serviced regularly
 • Reduce condensation by using exhaust fans, or open windows in the bathroom and kitchen when showering, cooking or using the dishwasher
 • Wipe up excess water caused by condensation such as on single glazed windows and on shower glazing
 • Book a professional carpet or upholstery clean or a pressure clean.

The best advice is to get onto it quickly before it spreads and causes potential health problems in your home, office, hotel or restaurant.

A scotchguard treatment by Microseal doesn’t just put a layer or coating over the surface it actually penetrates the fibres and offers long term protection even through multiple professional cleans!

Here are some more reasons to choose Citrus Clean’s Microseal treatment.

MicroSeal vs other scotchguard options

Points of difference are many, most importantly it’s safe for your family and pets and has no Flourochemicals or PTFE Resin (non-stick) and won’t change the colour or texture of the fabric or surface.

With other scotchguard types of fabric protection (coater), if you get a professional clean after treatment you will need to reapply. With Microseal you don’t need to.

MicroSeal offers long term stain resistance because it is a penetrator type which has high-level permanency and doesn’t need to be reapplied after a professional clean.

Microseal dramatically increasing the life of all natural and synthetic fabrics. It penetrates the fibres and seals fibres, it’s more resistance to wear and abrasion.

Be careful when choosing a fabric protection treatment that any water based scotchguarding can affect the quality look and feel of the fabric and don’t assume ‘water based’ protectors are non-toxic. Look out for Coater type fabric protection which can cause yellowing and change fabric texture.

MicroSeal is NOT water based so will not cause shrinkage or adversely affect cellulosic textile and rug fibres and it’s anti-static and will reduce smoke and flame spread in the event of a fire.

It’s wool safe!

Hardcore stain remover that’s eco-friendly and Aussie made 7

The secret is out. The commercial cleaning agents we use on the job are ‘powerful-as’ and yet, they’re non-toxic and safe for the home, office and hospitality environment. Terms like ‘powerful’ and ‘environmentally friendly’ don’t usually go hand in hand when it comes to cleaning agents until now. The stuff we use is so good that we decided to bottle it so customers can use it in between professional cleans!

We call it “Spotter”!

Citrus Clean Spotter spray prevents nasty spills from coffee, wine or oils on your carpet or upholstery from becoming stains and it sanitizes the area leaving a fresh smelling stain free surface and it’s biodegradable.

Spray what?

Helps remove stains from your carpet, rugs, upholstery and even car interior.

It’s a natural ingredients-based product that also helps eliminate smells and neutralise odours from urine and other pet smells and stains from the likes of vomit or excrement.

We are proud to say we created this product right here at Citrus Clean Central Coast.

A spot and stain remover that is gentle on carpet fibres but powerful enough to break down stains. You can purchase a bottle of our amazing carpet spotter and benefit from the unique formula that breaks down stains without harmful chemicals.

We’re all doing our best to be conscious of the environment in everything we do and the products that we purchase and Citrus Clean is no different. In between professional carpet cleans we recommend using an allergy-friendly stain remover like our Spotter. Keep a bottle of our Spotter in the cupboard for those unsightly spills and smudges.

Have you ever done a home eco-audit of the cleaning products you purchase? Are they environmentally friendly or toxic? Are they made in Australia?

At Citrus Clean we pride ourselves on being a ‘no-harmful chemical’ zone!

Spray it don’t scrub it!

Spotter is a 500ml spray bottle. Test in small inconspicuous area using paper towel to test colour fastness first. Remove solids and gently blot area of stain with damp cloth toward the centre (don’t over wet the area).

Super easy to use simply spray on affected area and wait a few moments let Spotter do its thing!

 • No rubbing
 • No scrubbing
 • No residue

Vacuum when surface is dry. For best results use promptly after nasty spill occurs. Stubborn stains may require professional clean.

If you do carpet shampoo treatment yourself, you can use the spotter prior to shampoo treatment on those hard to budge spots and stains.

Some of our customers have been amazed with the results when they used Spotter on an old lounge and armchairs transforming the look, sanitizing it and replacing the stinky smell with clean freshness and no odours!
